Analysis of SLN
The Sentinel node biopsy is emerging as the surgical procedure of choice in early stage, clinically node-negative breast cancer patients. As current intra-operative diagnoses of the SLN (frozen section or touch imprint with rapid haematoxylin and eosin (H & E) staining) have the ability to only analyse a small part of the lymph node they show a high false negative ratio.
Sysmex offers a new intra-operative detection method. Its sensitivity and specificity has proven to be comparable to those of very extensive histopathological examinations, which can currently only be accomplished postoperatively. Second surgeries can thus be avoided.
» Clinical studies in Europe and Japan have demonstrated that the OSNA assay can be applied as a reliable diagnostic tool.
